# Eastron SDM

Connect Eastron SDM energy meters via Modbus RTU.

Eastron meters in the SDM range (SDM72, SDM120, SDM220, SDM230, SDM630)
communicate over **Modbus RTU** on the hub's RS485 bus. Depending on the model
they measure a single-phase or three-phase connection, and can be assigned one
of three roles: root meter, consumption meter or production meter.

## 1. Hardware required

- The Eastron meter (model according to the measurement need)
- A USB↔RS485 adapter on the hub side
- Bus cable, 2 twisted cores (A/B) + ground

## 2. RS485 wiring

Connect A↔A and B↔B between the adapter and the meter, with a common ground.
Fit a **120 Ω** termination resistor at each end of the bus.

    The meter's default baud rate and parity: confirm them in the device menu
    before commissioning.

## 3. Modbus addressing

Every device on the bus needs a **unique slave address** (set from the meter's
menu). The default address is `1`. If several Eastron meters share the bus,
assign `1`, `2`, `3`, …

## 4. Adding and configuring in the app

Devices are added from the app, in installer mode — see
[Adding a device](../../installation/application.md). For the Eastron:
discovery on the bus, model selection, then choice of **role** (root meter /
consumption / production).

## 5. Verification

Once added, the `connected` state turns true and the quantities (`currentPower`
and so on) start updating. If no data arrives: check the A/B wiring, the slave
address and the termination.
