# API

The box integrates with your tools through two local interfaces, on your network:

- the [JSON-RPC API](integrations/jsonrpc-api.md) — connection, authentication,
  conventions — and its [full reference](api/index.md), generated from the box;
- [MQTT](integrations/mqtt.md).

!!! note "What about the optimizer protocol?"
    The channel between the engine and an optimizer is **not** an integration API: it
    has its own protocol, described in the [Optimizer](optimiseur/protocole.md) section.
